Termite Control
Each year termites cause over 5 billions of dollars of damage, more than floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and fires combined (yes even here in California). Only for the people who didn't call SLO Pest & Termite.
- Soil: Most termites are subterranean, meaning that they build their colonies in the ground. They love the soil and build elaborate tunnel systems, called galleries, extending up to three feet below the surface. Termites will often use this versatile building material to create mud tubes leading from their underground colonies to above ground food sources, like the wood in your home.
- Wood: Termites will consume any material that contains cellulose, and since wood contains a great deal of cellulose, termites devour wood voraciously. If a single piece of wood touches the ground, be certain that a colony of termites somewhere will know about it. Although some subterranean termites will consume other materials like vegetation, dung and humus, their primary source of food, and their favorite, is wood.
- Water: As with most living things, termites generally cannot survive without a source of water present. Whether in the form of a leaky faucet or the natural precipitation process of rain, termites will always seek some source of moisture to survive.
SLO Pest & Termite offers multiple services on the Termite side of the industry.
Subterranean Termites

This termite will truly eat you out of house and home.
Today, as the world population explodes and more and more forests are destroyed, termites are attacking our homes more aggressively to feed their huge colonies.

With the application of Termidor (termiticide), we can stop this termite dead in its tracks. Termidor revolutionized this industry about 6 years ago with its ability to "transfer effect" (the spreading of the insecticide throughout the colony, like a deadly virus)(see below).
For this to work the chemical has to work slow![]()
(really slow) to allow more time for the transfer effect to take place and the chemical has to have stealth. If the termite knows where the insecticide is, they will go around it (this is where the old products fail).
Subterranean termite treatment has changed dramatically. The number of systems, application techniques and products available for termite control has tripled in just the last 10 years. If you experience a subterranean termite swarm you may get three different opinions on how to solve the problem. This opinion will usually coincide with the treatment the inspector's company provides.
At SLO Pest & Termite we are familiar with all the latest systems, techniques and products because we deal with the manufacturers directly. For a break down on how the different systems, techniques and products work:

Transfer effect
Whenever a termite ingests or touches Termidor, it can
become a “carrier,” transferring Termidor to other termites it contacts. These termites, in turn, can become secondary carriers, behaving normally while they transfer Termidor to other termites they contact—and so on within the colony. Because Termidor is slow-acting, it gives individual termites ample time to transfer it to others in the population. This unique, spiraling process is called the “Transfer Effect,” and its devastating results maximize the protection of your structure.
